NSW: Family critical in hospital after car smash

SYDNEY, April 24 AAP - Three members of a family are today in a critical condition
in hospital after a car crash in Sydney's west.

Police are seeking witnesses to the accident, which also left a 39-year-old man with
critical head injuries.

The accident happened about 3pm (AEST) yesterday at Wentworthville, police said today.

Three members of a St Johns Park family were travelling in a Toyota Hi-Ace on the Cumberland
Highway, driven by a 28-year-old female learner driver.

Their vehicle attempted to turn right into Darcy Road and collided with a southbound
Mercedes sedan.

The driver suffered internal injuries while a six-year-old boy sustained multiple fractures
to his head and body.

Both remain in a critical condition in Westmead Hospital, along with the 26-year-old
male passenger.

The 39-year-old man driving the Mercedes suffered critical head injuries and was also
rushed to Westmead Hospital.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the Metropolitan Crash Investigation
Unit on 9689 7370 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
